If you’re a foodie living in Kuala Lumpur, you’ve surely heard of Fowlboys! This Malaysian duo started their very own fried chicken/burger joint from their apartment during the pandemic. Fowlboys specialises in Southern-style fried chicken, and what is that you might ask? Imagine an intensely flavoured buttermilk brine tenderising the chicken patty while keeping it moist and finished off with an extra crisp golden crust…are you drooling yet?

With the help of Johann’s home cooking skill and Shaq’s marketing expertise, it was a match made in fried chicken heaven! Read on to out why did Johan and Shaq decided to start their business with a cloud kitchen, instead of a traditional brick and mortar restaurant.

Q: What is unique about Fowlboys’ food idea? How did it come about?

A: Southern Fried Chicken – came from a dream Johann had!

Q: Why did you join KitchenConnect?

A: Being a “virtual” brand, we needed a space to accommodate our needs whilst being located in a prime location.

Q: How has Fowlboys grown since starting with KitchenConnect?

A: Tremendously. Beyond our wildest estimates!

Q: What was life like before KitchenConnect? What is it like now?

A: Life was a mess before Kitchen Connect. Once we got up and running at KC, we really got to fine tune our process efficiencies.

Q: In your opinion, what is the key to business success in the F&B industry?

A: Never give up, never back down.

Q: What is your advice for new local Malaysian F&B entrepreneurs?

A: REALLY believe in yourself, your brand/product and your team.

Q: What are Fowlboys plan for the future?

A: To take over KFC!

Q: Would you recommend KitchenConnect to others in the restaurant industry? Why?

A: Absolutely – location is everything when it comes to food delivery and KC has got it right. Also highly recommended for the tech and client service that comes with it.
